I. CAN. DO. THIS.

I really enjoy writing.  It makes me feel comforted and I have recently been thinking that the only writing I do is in texts or emails.  It isn't creative or therapeutic or about me or my life.  It is usually informative and boring and answers to questions.  I may or may not use appropriate punctuation.  But I don't like that!  I can write and you can hear my voice!  I am imaginative and reflective and I. CAN. DO. THIS.

(And what's THAT all about?  That word. and. period. and. word. and period. for. emphasis. thing?)

Anyway, ok, so what have I been up to?  I guess the major thing in my life is that my little one has started elementary school and that has been a huge adjustment for both of us.  She does like her teacher but does not like when the teacher leaves the class at lunch to eat her own lunch.  (And I really can empathize with teachers and their need for a quiet lunch ALONE.)   I am guessing she has some kind of abandonment issue going on.  The teacher says that this is all a phase and that with time she'll get used to all of the routines of school.

So I have been working from home on WordPress adding events to a website back home and I'm a PTSA chairperson and I'm trying to be a great mom and wife all the while maintaining relationships with my girlfriends and my extended family.  It's a lot.

I always say this when I come back to my blog.  That I will be more disciplined.  That I will use this to exercise my writing muscle and get it all out.  We'll see how disciplined I can be.  Stay tuned.

The Blog and I

Well, if you have been following my blog you were probably wondering if I had fallen off the face of the Earth.  I'm here!  I really am!  And I have been doing interesting things, crafts, growing stuff and trying to stay true to my inventive self.  What's new with you?

crayons, recycled.

1.  Pull out those broken crayons out of your crayon box and heat the oven to 200.
2.  Chop up said crayons.
3.  Put them in a muffin pan... I used a silicone one.
4.   Sprinkle them in the cups (this was the fun part for Maggie).
5.  I baked mine for about 45 minutes.
6.  Let them cool and harden.
7.  Voila!  You've got the coolest crayons on the block!
(Thanks for the great idea, Katie!)

T-SHIRT DUVET COVER

I was hoarding Larry's t-shirts.  And I hate hoarding.  He was never going to wear these t-shirts again.  They were nasty, old, pit-stained and just icky.  But they reminded me of the beginning of our relationship and the wild ride that has become our life together.  So, instead of forcing myself to part with these sentimental stink rags... I made them into something useful:  a duvet cover!

I made one with old fleece baby blankets, too.  It's my quilting style... totally renegade.

Want one?  I'll make one for you out of old baby clothes, blankets, whatever... commission me.  I'm up for it.

thursday's wallpaper

I'm not super crazy about these bright, super geometric papers... but I love how this is composed.

wallpaper Tuesday

Ok, this is a little TOO groovy for my taste.  I like the vertical stripes, though.  Maybe just a collection of four circles in a frame or something.  The colors are wonderful... they are brave!

paper for walls

My parents had one wall in our kitchen in the 80s that had some pretty cool wallpaper on it.  Ferns in a few shades of green.  And it was tasteful.  And I still remember it!  This is Wallpaper Week with Boho Martha.  Enjoy some of these wonderful and colorful prints in the coming days.  They will perk you up, I'm sure.

Friday's Washroom

Sigh... What a beautiful bathtub.  This is a sanctuary.  Tranquility and beauty.  I want to be sucked into this photo so I can touch everything.  Lovely!

Tuesday's Bathroom

The windows.  The wood.  The fresh water and lily pads?  Rustic, natural and soothing.  I wonder if this bathroom belongs to a Seattleite?

Bathrooms: A Mother's Sanctuary

My husband and I are in the process of buying our first house... it's been a TOTAL ordeal.  In fact, don't ask me any questions, I don't want to jinx anything.  But I WILL tell you that nothing we looked at had a beautiful bathroom already existing.  Another thing I will tell you... I love bathrooms.  A mother's sanctuary, really.  I like them steamy, candlelit and full of delightful smelling oils, soaps and bubbles.  This is my IDEAL.  This is not how I live.  My bathroom experience is a quick shower, a shave.... ha!  You don't want to hear about all that.

So, in honor of bathrooms and quiet moments alone... This is DAY ONE of Boho Martha's Bathroom Week.

the museum experience

I took the kids to Bellevue Art Museum yesterday.  And we had a blast!

I feel a lot of different emotions when I visit an art museum but the resounding one is LUCK or GOOD FORTUNE for being able to experience art at that moment... when most people are driving, texting, tapping away mindlessly at a boring job.  What a privilege it is to peek into an artist's world and see, or better yet, EXPERIENCE a time-consuming, detailed (maybe therapeutic?) piece.

This is Chris Antemann's work.  The piece below was my favorite, Feast of Impropriety,... super lustful and gluttonous... but still sort of playful and light-hearted.  Loved it!

what to wear, what to wear...

Hmmm, oh, I know!!!!  My Barbie shoe necklace!
I don't know where I found this picture.  But it's WONDERFUL!  Please make one for me, too.

Collecting Resolutions

I have a gut feeling this will be the year of BIG things in my life.  *MY* year, if you will.  See, I love ELEVENS.  It's kinda MY number.  So, with that in mind I am consciously collecting my dreams, resolutions, and prayers for 2011 and throwing them all together to make this best year of my life yet.

What are your resolutions for the new year?

Still in my jammies

Merry Christmas, friends!  The presents are opened, the families have been Skyped, the standing rib roast is being prepared, the potatoes and brussels have been cut and peeled, and I am still in my jammies.  Life is good.

I need a recipe for grapefruit dressing... maybe I'll make one up.  (Oh, blogging! How indulgent writing out my every thought!)

Velvet

Velvet isn't very fashionable at the moment.  And I'm not sure why.  It's soft, luxurious, and begs to be touched.

And you know what?  I'm wearing it today.  I can rock it and it will be back in fashion next year.

Happy Holidays! Wear something that  feels lovely on your skin!

Look at this fabulous JPG velvet "jacket"!

Feelin’ It

001

I think I am going to give blogging another try.  I was into it for a while there.  Sharing every little creation, gabbing about moving and being ever so insightful.  I guess I was feeling a little sorry for myself.  That I had no audience.  That no one wanted to see my crappy homemade valentines.  Now I am throwing my fragile ego to the wind!  I’m back… we’ll see how long it lasts.  (And that, my dear friends, is butter pecan shortbread.)

An Apron Story

My MIL gave me this simple cut, sew and go apron for Christmas.  Finally got around to doing it.  Pretty cute!  Aprons are fun.  I should dig up my vintage apron collection.  I have some adorable ones to share!
