Christmas gift for Camden

It turned out pretty sweetly.  Very simple elastic skirt with no pattern.  Hope it fits...

DiNoSaUr turtleneck

Found a cool dinosaur image.  Made a stencil.  Made a felt copy.  Hand-sewn to a black turtleneck.  Added a star button eye.  VOILA!  A cute gift for a 5-year-old boy's birthday... and of course, I don't want to seem like that weird auntie who knits you ugly sweaters for Christmas, we also gave said 5-year-old an Incredible Hulk Operation game.  I hope the kid wears it.  *sigh*

NEW BLOG NAME!

A friend called me "Boho Martha" today and well, I LOVE it.  I wasn't ever happy with A Mad Housewife.  So, now I am changing my blog title.  What do you think?

embroidered felt ornament

Made a felt, embroidered snail ornament for a gift. I am pleased with my design. I need help taking better photos of my crafts. Any ideas?

tree time!

It's time to decorate the tree! Our tradition is cookies and cocoa while we decorate. I am so lucky my husband likes to bake.

Space is limited in our extra-small space but it looks pretty cute.

Happy Holidays!

Stitchery

A pillow case and a felt Christmas wreath are my latest embroidery projects. I really enjoy it. I think I have graduated on to something more complicated but this fat stitches are so fun and ZEN.

we love painting!

The baby loves to paint. She so content with a brush in her hand. And she has a signature circle technique that is really quite pretty. Henry like to build, cut and paint. So, in trying to incorporate all those things: we made some homemade cinnamon play-doh, cut out a few shapes, but constructed a few of our own, baked it, painted it, mod podged and glittered it.... phew. But I think I might enjoy being an art teacher. That's my latest personal discovery. We shall see...

Odds and Ends

Thanks to Erin! Sent me a box of neat doo-dads, scraps and delight! Made this quick quilted bag. Very bohemian, no?

And this ratty chic headbandy, earwarmer. I love them both!

embroidering and other stuff

Hello! I have been teaching myself to embroider! I like it but I am not very good at it. My designs have been pretty juvenile because, of course, I like to create my own designs. I have an interview for a part-time job today! I am not at all nervous. Hmm, what else? Very rainy here. Not much to report. I'm just not gone from the blogosphere. I have a felt ornament project going, too. And some alteration gigs... I'll post some recent pics soon.

xo to all my fans.

sister scarf and a confession

A super long and skinny scarf for my sister's birthday! It's pretty cute and would look great on me but it's for her...

There's something to be said about the therapeutic effects of knitting. I love to zone out and knit! Meditative, indeed.

Ah, the confession? I can only knit. I can't purl. And I can't cast off. Not a great knitter, either. In fact, I have a message on my mothers' board to have someone help me finish it. Ha!

Felted Wool Sweater Slippers

I have just been so inspired the past few days. A dear friend sent me a box of scraps, buttons, lace, and strange odds and ends. She thought I might think it junk, but, alas, it just makes more delightful CHINTZY COUTURE.

I have had this 25 cent sweater for ages but it had a few holes in it, making it unwearable for me.

I found a pattern for felted slippers on Ms. Martha Stewart's website and improvised. Check them out, I'm pretty proud of this accomplishment.

beauty for your wrist

All of these are gifts. And I must say it was hard to part with them today. I put them all on my wrist and it was FABULOUS. (Ignore the crumb on the second photo.)

I attached some silver milagros to each of them. Made me miss my old neighborhood and my barrio's shrines.

Nos vemos!

Pumpkin Patch

falling for fall

What an incredible season. All these years in the desert, I had no idea it was so beautiful.

earthy and green bracelet

This one's for my mother's birthday. I love gifting her jewelry because she wears and thoughtfully chooses unique pieces to wear every day to work. And I know she doesn't throw it to the back of her jewelry box... I'm her kid, you know. Hang that crazy finger-painting on the fridge! Or in my case, slap that chintzy bracelet on your wrist!

Happy Birthday, Mom!
